Deleting your account

This page explains how to permanently delete your Olaf Wishlist account, what data is erased, what may be retained for legal reasons, and what to do if you can no longer access your account. Deletion is free, unconditional and immediate.

How to delete your account

You can delete your account yourself at any time, from the mobile app or from the website.

From the mobile app (Android / iOS)

  1. Open the Olaf Wishlist app.
  2. Tap your avatar in the top right to open the menu.
  3. Select "My Profile".
  4. Scroll down to the "Danger Zone" section.
  5. Tap "Delete my account".
  6. Confirm deletion in the confirmation dialog.

From the website

  1. Sign in at https://www.olaf-wishlist.com.
  2. Click your avatar in the top right.
  3. Select "My Profile".
  4. Scroll down to the "Danger Zone" section.
  5. Click "Delete my account".
  6. Confirm deletion in the confirmation dialog.

After confirmation, your account and all associated data are erased immediately, with no retention period. You are automatically signed out and redirected to the home page.

What is deleted

Deletion is irreversible and immediate. The following items are erased the moment you confirm deletion:

  • All your private, public and memo wishlists
  • All items (gift ideas) on your lists
  • All photos you have uploaded (items, list covers, avatar)
  • The history of your messages in per-item chats
  • Your reservations on the lists of people close to you
  • Your ongoing and completed contributions
  • Your notification preferences (email, push, in-app)
  • Your links with external authentication providers (Google, Facebook, Apple)
  • Your profile information (display name, date of birth, time zone, language, etc.)
  • The people you manage (children, relatives without an account) and their lists

Special case: groups you have created

If you own a group containing other members, ownership of the group is automatically transferred to another member (priority to the longest-standing admins, then to the longest-standing members). The group and the lists of the other members are preserved so as not to penalise users who did not ask for anything. If you are alone in the group, the group is deleted in its entirety.

This operation is final: we cannot restore a deleted account. If you wish to keep a copy of your data before deletion, you can download it in JSON format from your profile ("My personal data" section).

What may be retained

For technical, legal or security reasons, certain information may be retained for a limited time after your account is deleted:

  • Application logs (server logs), which may contain your IP address anonymised through hashing and technical identifiers. These logs are kept for a maximum of 30 days and are then automatically erased.
  • Any billing data, if a commercial transaction took place on your account, retained for the legal accounting retention period (10 years under French law).
  • Audit logs related to legal obligations (GDPR, fraud prevention), retained for the period set out by the applicable regulations.

Where retention is necessary, data is anonymised as soon as possible so that no link can be made with your identity.

You can no longer sign in to your account

If you have forgotten your password and no longer have access to the email address associated with your account, you will not be able to delete your account using the automatic methods described above. In that case:

  1. Write to us at contact@olaf-wishlist.com.
  2. Provide the email address associated with your account (or a former address if you have changed it).
  3. Attach any information that helps verify your identity (display name, approximate account creation date, last actions taken, etc.).
  4. We will manually delete your account within 30 days of verification.

This manual procedure is necessary to prevent a third party from requesting the deletion of an account that does not belong to them. We reserve the right to ask for additional information if we have any doubt about your identity.
