Guardian — managing a list for a loved one without an account

The guardian role addresses a very real family need: how do you create a wish list for a child or loved one who does not have an account? The guardian is a group member who creates and manages a wishlist for a beneficiary — a child, an elderly parent, anyone for whom you want to organise gifts.

The beneficiary is assigned a customisable avatar and name that appear in the group interface. They do not need an account, an email address, or an app. Their list exists within the group context, managed entirely by the guardian.

The guardian can see reservations

The fundamental difference between a guardian and a regular gift recipient is that the guardian can see reservations on the list they manage. This exception to the surprise rule is intentional and necessary: to effectively manage a child's gifts, the parent-guardian must know what is already planned to avoid duplicates.

Furthermore, the guardian can reserve on the list they manage — unlike a gift recipient who can never reserve on their own list. This additional permission allows the guardian to actively coordinate gifts, in addition to what other members have already planned.

Editor rights — helping loved ones

The editor role is a powerful tool for helping less tech-savvy members. An editor can create, modify and delete items on any group member's wishlists — ideal for helping a grandparent build their list, or for correcting a mistake on a loved one's list.

The editor can also cancel any reservation in the group, promote a regular member to editor or the reverse. These extended rights make the editor a true group coordinator, able to step in wherever needed.

Group ownership transfer

The group creator — its creator — can transfer group ownership to another member at any time. This feature is useful in many situations: changing family arrangements, delegating management to another member, or simply to reflect who is taking charge of event organisation.

The transfer is irreversible unless the new creator decides to transfer again. The former creator becomes an editor member of the group — they retain their editing rights but are no longer the primary owner. A notification is sent to all group members when ownership is transferred.

Create a dedicated space for your whole family and organise everyone's gifts with ease.
